Eureka Manufacturing Announces Anti-Entrapment Drain Cover Availability

Exclusive Eureka Manufacturing Designed Main Drain Cover Plate Certified to ASME A112.19.8-2007

Bismarck — December 5, 2008 — Eureka Manufacturing was recently certified to ASME standards on its Anti-Entrapment Drain Cover. The design focuses on individual slots angled away from each other which make blocking even half of the cover impossible. In addition, the design reduces the chance of creating a vortex (whirlpool), which can allow air into the lines, starving the pump.
The Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act was signed into law by President Bush on December 19, 2007, and requires entrapment prevention and protective barriers around pools, spas and hot tubs. Their cover design will address bather entrapment concerns.

“Swimmer safety has always been our greatest concern, and we’ve always strived to be ahead of the curve,” said Eureka Manufacturing National Sales Director, Cathryn Binstock.  “We have been manufacturing anti-entrapment covers for several years; however, for this particular design, we went back to the drawing board and made some important changes to not just meet, but to exceed the standards set forth by ASME.  It’s been a challenge, but the knowledge of having safer swimming pools nation-wide has made it all worthwhile.”

Design Features

Eureka Manufacturing has worked hard to meet the best possible combination of safety, aesthetics and practical use with the new drain cover.  “One of the first challenges we faced was fit, so we made sure that the cover will easily install over existing drains.  Durability and longevity was also a major concern, so it is made from durable 12ga Stainless Steel that will withstand abuse from pool and spa chemicals,” says Binstock.  “We also wanted it to look nice, so we gave it a gradual slope with a low profile that will not distract swimmers… it’s a very professional look. To address further safety concerns, we also spent a lot of time coming up with the right finish.  Overall, it looks and functions great.”

Drain Cover Availability

In anticipation of the approval, Eureka Manufacturing is gearing up to fulfill the commercial needs nationwide.  “We understand that these changes are necessary for all pool facilities and are doing our absolute best to provide everyone with the product they need as quickly as possible,” says Binstock.
